Paper Plate Pumpkins-Two different ideas!

Simple crafts for young children.  The first project:  Your child can tear orange construction paper into pieces and glue on a paper plate. You can cut or have the child cut shapes out for eyes, nose and mouth and glue them on.  The child can cut or tear the stem and glue it on.
The second project:  Paint a pumpkin face on a paper plate.  Glue a stem on.
Fun, simple!

A QUIET SUMMER DAY PROJECT----READ A BOOK AND CREATE A PIECE OF ART

The Three Little Pigs

This is a fun project that starts with reading a book!  "The Three Little Pigs" is a classic and so much can be done with this book.  Read the book and have the children make little pig masks.  the children can act out the book taking turns being little pigs and the big bad wolf!

AUTUMN SCARECROW

This is a fun project to sit on your porch and welcome your guests for Thanksgiving!

SCARECROW:
Have your child pick a shirt, pants, socks and mittens.  Stuff with newspapers.
Cut down a paper bag to whatever size you want the scarecrows head to be.  Paint the head.  You can have your child cut eyes, nose and mouth out of construction paper and glue on the bag or have your child paint eyes, nose and mouth on the bag. 

Using safety pins, pin the shirt to the pants.  You can add the mittens and socks by using rubberbands.
 
Place a stick into the back of the shirt and down to the seat of the pants.  Place the head (bag) on the top of the stick. Glue gun the bottom of the head onto the stick.

Tie raffea around the neck, mittens and socks.

Place a hat on your scarecrow, place in a chair and name him/her!

PICASSO WATCH OUT!

WHAT A FUN DAY!
We were invited to present our love of art to a MOPS group and we had such a great time!  The ladies created children's art using their imagination and inner child!  Thank you for making our day!

A CHILDREN'S ART CENTER

What a fun day you and your little one will have creating a children's  art center! 
First, you will need something with drawers that can be used for art supplies.  You can find plastic carts with 3 or 4 drawers at Walmart or Target. 
Second, you find art supplies to fill the drawers!  Watercolor paints, paint brushes, construction paper, scissors, glue, fingerpaints, play dough and play dough cookie cutters, crayons, makers, etc...whatever is age appropriate, fun and interesting for your child!
Last, you now have an art center ready for those rainy spring and summer days or the wonderful days your child asks you to play with him or her! 
Have fun creating with art!

NEW SUMMER PROJECT

FOOTPRINT MURAL

SUPPLIES:  WHITE BULLETIN BOARD PAPER OR OLD SHEET,
CAKE PANS WITH SIDES, ASSORTED COLORS OF WASHABLE PAINT, TUB, WATER, PAPER TOWELS

SET UP:  PLACE PAPER OR SHEET ON FLOOR, DRIVEWAY, OR GRASS.  POUR DIFFERENT COLORS OF WASHABLE PAINT IN CAKE PANS.  PLACE ONE CAKE PAN ON SHEET OR PAPER.  FILL THE TUB WITH WATER AND PLACE CLOSE TO PROJECT. 

CREATE:  HAVE THE CHILDREN TAKE OFF THEIR SHOES AND SOCKS.  AN ADULT WILL NEED TO DIRECT THIS ACTIVITY.  HOLDING THE CHILD'S HAND, PUT THE CHILD'S FEET IN THE PAN CONTAINING THE PAINT, AND LET HIM OR HER WALK ON THE MURAL.  HAVE EACH CHILD WALK IN DIFFERENT COLOR PAINT SO THEY KNOW THEIR OWN FOOTPRINTS!  THE CHILDREN WASH THEIR FEET IN THE TUB AND DRY OFF WITH THE PAPER TOWELS.  HANG THE MURAL IN A PROMINENT PLACE.

WHAT'S HAPPENING....

 

Art Based Curriculum has been busy.

 

In the fall of 2012, Nancy and Kathi presented a Power Point program about art from our book, Art Based Curriculum, to a Woodland Park MOPS group and the Pikes Peak home day care group. We also spoke to the Colorado Association for the Education of the Young Child in Denver. 

 

We started the new year, 2013, with three presentations, First Presbyterian MOPS groups and a group of mothers from Mountain Shadows. 

We have enjoyed meeting all the moms, grandmas, teachers, and care givers of young children.

Nancy and Kathi love sharing their passion for art and have had fun watching them create art projects from our book.  

 

 



Do you have a creative area for your child?

An easy way to have creativity in your child's daily life is to provide an art center designed for them.  Your center should include construction paper, watercolor paints, washable paints, paint brushes, glue, markers, playdough and cookie cutters and art smocks.  Scissors would be available according to your child's age.  Buy a plastic chest with drawers available at any discount store.  Fill the drawers!  Your child now has a creative corner that imagination, fun and fantasy is all theirs .

NEED A NEW IDEA FOR A SUMMER  DAY?

An art project using a recipe with a different medium

MILK PAINT:

Supplies:  Can of evaporated milk, food coloring, small containers, paint brushes, white paper plate

Set up:  Mix milk and food coloring in the containers, one color per container.  Set out the containers, paint brushes, and the paper plate.

Create:  Paint the paper plate with the milk paint.

Use your imagination and create your own masterpiece!
